Negros Nine Conducts Hidden World of Trafficking Symposium

The Negros Nine Human Development Foundation, Inc. (NNHDF) in coordination with the Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation (JPIC), Columban Missionaries, local government and Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office of the Municipality of Candoni conducted a symposium on the “Hidden World of Trafficking” September 2, 2009 at the SP Session Hall of Candoni.

Jerome E. Seballos, NNHDF Program Coordinator, discussed the trends, currents and situationer of trafficking in the Negros Island.

Meanwhile, Atty. Collin Derk Y. Isidto, also gave lecture on R. A. No. 9208 otherwise known as “Trafficking in Persons Act 2003.”

Fr. Brian Gore challenged the participants to get involved on how to prevent the prevalent problem of trafficking in the province.
Line agencies from the Women’s and Childrens’ Desk of the Philippine National Police, Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office, Local Council for the Protection of Children, Municipal Health Office, Committee on Women and Children, Municipal Council of Candoni, Barangay Officials, academe and local Churches attended the said symposium.

Hon. Jimmy Tiaga, Acting Mayor of Candoni, vowed to create an ordinance for the creation of the local inter-agency council against trafficking in his municipality.

This is about the Long March, or Exodus '84, to allow it a scriptural description, three days of torrid sun and long kilometers from Kabankalan to Bacolod , a distance of about ninety-five kilometers, or approximately sixty miles. I was there. A long line of marchers (numbering at the start more than 1500) carrying streamers and placards moved over a hot asphalt road like a colony of ants, twisting into curves, seemingly endless.
