Cases filed in Court

Kabankalan Case

Briefcase:

Nelson, the complainant and father of the victim asked helped from us to locate his 17 year old daughter Nene (not her real name), who was recruited and transported to Manila by three persons without their knowledge or consent for the purpose of forced labor in domestic employment on March 3, 2005. The respondents even alleged that Nene had signed a contract, however her parents claim that she does not know how to write her name (grade 2).

Development of the Case

Nene was located and is in the employment of one of the traffickers in Caloocan City, near Manila.  The recruitment agency, owned by the accused, was  issued a closure order by the  Department of Labor and Employment last 2002 but continues to operate under a new business name. Nene was rescued with the help of the Visayan Forum and the Women and Children Desk of the Philippine National Police in Manila. Nene was sent back home to Kabankalan City, and the trafficker was arrested and transferred in Kabankalan District jail. A case of Qualified Trafficking has been filed against the trafficker at Regional Trial Court, in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.

Himamaylan Case:
Two minors, Inday 13 and Letty 11, (not their real names) were recruited to work as  waitresses in a videokebar last June 2008.  They stopped school and left their parents in exchange for a monetary consideration that they might get from working as waitresses.  They worked daily from 6pm until 3am.  They slept on top of the tables without any blankets, mattress, pillows or anything to protect them from the cold and mosquito bites.  For almost 20 days they suffered from this ordeal.  They were rescued and put into a crises centre for temporary shelter.  A case of Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003 (RA 9208 ) was filed against the accused.

Exodus 84

by Columban Fr. Robert Burke

This is about the Long March, or Exodus '84, to allow it a scriptural description, three days of torrid sun and long kilometers from Kabankalan to Bacolod , a distance of about ninety-five kilometers, or approximately sixty miles. I was there. A long line of marchers (numbering at the start more than 1500) carrying streamers and placards moved over a hot asphalt road like a colony of ants, twisting into curves, seemingly endless.
